Description

“Snickersnee” Variations is derived from the famous trio from “The Mikado” (Gilbert and Sullivan, “The Criminal Cried as He Went Down”). In this cheerful song about decapitation, the “snickersnee” refers to a dagger with which KoKo does the dastardly deed. The “Snickersnee” Variations consist of a set of ten variations freely derived from this tune. The variations are all connected and differ widely in meter, key, texture, and tempo.
