Scenes from Childhood
Description
Among the most beloved keyboard works of Robert Schumann are his Scenes from Childhood (Kinderszenen, Op. 15) composed in 1838. Anyone who has carefully studied these pieces would agree that while the technical demands are modest, they are anything but “childlike” in their musical depth.
Inspired by these miniature musical masterpieces, John Cheetham has borrowed Schumann’s title and set twelve musical remembrances from his own childhood. Cheetham, who was born and raised in Taos, New Mexico, pays homage to things, places and events from his early years living in this northern New Mexico ‘art colony.’ This collection represents his first compositions for solo piano.
