A Little Tune for Winds is the composer’s first piece, written in 1961 during his junior year at the University of New Mexico. This short work features a catchy theme and approachable writing for younger concert bands. The fact that his first effort in composition was conceived for the concert band foreshadows his career-long interest in that medium.
