Sonata for Horn and Piano
Description
The Sonata for Horn and Piano was written for Margaret Tung, Professor of Horn at the University of Akron, with financial assistance from the University of Akron. Movement I is in a free sonata form with two main themes: 1) a heroic theme employing octave skips, and 2) a more expressive, lyric theme. The second movement includes a folk-like melody at the beginning, anticipating a chaconne midway through it. Movement III is a rondo in which 7/8 meter persists throughout. A cadenza appears toward the end of the movement followed by a brisk coda. The Sonata represents the culmination of the composer’s goal to write sonatas for each of the principal orchestral brass instruments, that is: horn, trumpet, trombone, and tuba.Description: 3 mvt. sonata for horn and piano (also for horn and concert band $90.00)
